Some of you know both of us, some of you know one of us, so here's how these crazy kids got here...
Alice had taken a break from internet dating (oof, it’s a tough old world…). Nathan was half-heartedly still there, but his hopes weren’t high. Alice logged back on for the first time in months on Valentine’s Day 2017 (cliche alert). A profile caught her eye. A guy known as ‘Cowfields’ had looked at hers only days before. She had a peruse on the way into work and thought ‘I like the look of this guy’. She sent him a message, modern thinking woman that she is. He read it and thought ‘I remember her profile, she looked cool’. He replied...and asked her out for a drink. Alice loved it when guys online took the plunge early - weeks of messages get tiresome. She said yes.
2 March 2017, we meet at a pub near Finsbury Park in North London. There are no seats, and no one else is standing. A band has started up loudly in the back room. The beer selection is rubbish and pints are not going down well. The small talk is OK. But then progress! A couple leave and we get seats. We decide to ditch the beer and share a bottle of red. Then a second. When we leave, we agreed to date No2. We bus/tube home, feeling a little warm.
Well, more dates followed, a weekend in Rye, an ‘I love you’, a little while later an ‘I love you too’. A special holiday in Croatia. A ‘will you move in with me’. Lots of fun and frolics and fizzy drinks of the alcoholic variety. Meeting friends, meeting family, festivals, yummy food, camping, friends’ weddings, a very special holiday to Japan, a first Christmas together. And lots and lots of laughing.
And then Alice asked a big question and Nathan said yes...
Wishes it was still the 90s
Two favourite bands are also her dad’s two favourite bands, so I think you can agree she’s super cool (hey now...they are great bands...her dad is super cool…)
Loves films, goes through phases with the cinema
Used to only go to the theatre if a celebrity was in it (I’m looking at you, Lindsay Lohan) until a bestie pointed out that might be why she didn’t think she liked the theatre - is much better these days with her National membership and drags Nathan along…
Been a Newcastle United fan since the age of 8 - took a breather for a few years recently, but is now right back in there and has infected Nathan too - much to the disgust of some family and friends
Spends a lot of time with politicians, but don’t hold it against her - she likes to think she’s the angel on their shoulder…(If any said politicians, or her bosses, stumble across this...that’s clearly a joke)
Comes away from every book club meeting thinking she doesn’t read enough, but probably does really.
Adopted two sibling furballs in 2014 and they all spent their first week together watching the world cup...cats have shown no interest in football since, but do like mice, biscuits, feathers and sitting.
Loves London but also dreams of the Northumberland Coast...and has had her retirement cottage picked out since she was about 7 (Nathan has seen it and seems persuadable).
Also wishes it was the 90s. Maybe...there was a lot of good electronica that came with the millennium. Alice is perfect in every way, apart from the fact that she hates listening to a series of repetitive beats.
If you know Nathan you know he’s a nerd, hence this over engineered website when a simple email would have sufficed.
Nerdiness doesn’t just stop at computers or building websites, and Alice can only deal with the boring conversations about sourdough starters because of all the delicious toast she gets to eat.
Just someone that likes to tinker and experiment. It’s probably this interest in discovering lots of different things and focusing on none that stopped any potential for world domination.
Does nearly all the cooking in the household...and a lot of the washing up...wait, is that fair…? (Checked with Alice - apparently it’s fair).
Has an artistic brain that also likes maths and problem-solving - perfect for the day job as well as art projects, photography and doing puzzles with Alice (he does the cryptic clues).
Recently discovered a love of football via the World Cup, Athletico Mince and Match of the Day puns - enjoys doing impressions of the managers.
Loves cats and dogs...the ones he’s taken on thanks to Alice, his boy Omar, and wishes they had a dog (they’ve already named this imaginary dog).
